creating a home that suits your individual style means that we should aim to purchase items we love and that stand the test of time. it’s seductive to just buy the latest, cheap trends, but why not embrace a more sustainable solution instead? here are some of my favourite tips on how you can furnish your home sustainably, that allows you to save money and also save planetary resources. by Anita Vandyke

we live in a disposable society. from plastic bags at supermarkets, the disposable water bottle we buy at the convenience store, the straw we use to drink our green smoothie, the coffee cup we use for our daily coffee – every one of these items, all used for less than fifteen minutes, will sit in our landfill for hundreds of years. quite simply, the math just doesn’t add up. luckily there is a solution, firstly we can simply say no to these disposable items. secondly, we can replace these items with reusables. here are some of my favourite brands that are good quality, well priced and most of all, live up to their sustainable ethos.

winter doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom if we embrace it and all it has to offer. one of the best things about winter is the excuse to enjoy more warm drinks then we might at other times of the year. preparing an amazing hot drink to enjoy by yourself or share with friends can be made into a ceremonial practice, emoting feelings of groundedness and self-worth. well made hot drinks can also be deeply nourishing for the body as well as the mind. i’m not talking any old hot drink here, i’m talking in the realm of turkish delight hot chocolates and turmeric coconut chai’s. to snuggle up on the couch with one of these in hand, encased in your favourite mug is some of the best soul food around. take your hot drink repertoire up several notches this winter with some of these magical drinks.
